Costa Dorada

Costa Dorada images

The Costa Dorada (Daurada) is a diverse coastline with sandy beaches and craggy rocky bays stretching from south of Salou down to Peniscola which strictly speaking has become the Costa del Azahar. It is a little known area to non Spanish visitors who have for years visited the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol. That is changing now as travellers want a more authentic feel to their holiday destination and want culture, history and atmosphere as well as sun, sea and sand. The Costa Dorada has all this and more. It is a straightforward journey by motorway from Barcelona and one can also fly into Reus or even Valencia. It is also still feasible to drive for a holiday to this part of Spain from the UK. For days away from the beach, a walk in Tarragona in extremely interesting. Tarragona was founded by the Romans in c.218BC and the Part Alta still retains some of the Roman layout . Visit the Gothic cathedral and take a walk along the Paseo Arqueologico (Archaelogical Avenue).

L'Ametlla de Mar

L'Amettla image

Approx. 20 kms from Miami Platja. This town was originally a fishing village and retains all its charm and character. In the summer months it comes alive and is renowned for its fish restaurants, the local dishes often incorporate rice cooked in a fish stock. Most of the activity is of an outdoor nature with miles of footpaths, tennis volleyball, sub aqua and swimming. There is a large marina and sailing is as much a part of this part of the coast as fishing and mid afternoon sees the rowing boats coming in with their fish to auction at the fish market. Visit the local craft shops and the ceramics museum or hire bikes and visit the numerous beaches along this 16kms of coastline which L'Ametlla covers.
